Artificial Intelligence or AI is coming down the tracks like a freight train. It is promising to impact our lives both personally and professionally. While these changes can make vast improvements in efficiency, our health and how we circumnavigate our days, it can also bring a lot of fear and uncertainty.
The reason this happens, I believe is because this AI technology is changing so rapidly. When we look to find answers to try and understand how it will affect us personally, we are faced with so much information, whether from the news or our friends and employers. Sometimes the information contradicts itself or might be incomplete or unsatisfying to something we were hoping to hear for assurance.
This uncertainty and lack of information is real and it is something that I have been struggling with since AI burst onto the front page. I have found it more interesting to hear about how it will affect our daily lives, especially when it comes to health and conveniences. However, when it comes to my professional life, I get more anxious. You see I have a career in finance and that is one of the areas that AI has it’s sights on.
About me
I am currently a Director of Finance at a nonprofit organization, but prior to that I’ve spent over 25 years in a similar role at mostly smaller for profit firms in manufacturing and distribution industries. I have a B.S. in Marketing and an MBA in Finance from DePaul University.
Why I’m writing this Blog
The reason I decided to start writing about AI is to help me understand it better. With the lack of or inaccurate information available it’s hard to know where this is headed and what affect it will have, because it’s coming whether we like it or not.
The future posts will:
- Record and share my journey to understand AI and it’s impact on the finance and accounting profession
- By understanding it, a finance professional (like myself) can control the way it is introduced to their employer and become an invaluable asset to their organization
- To serve as a collection of useful information and a resource to those interested in reading about my discoveries. I hope to have a way to collect and share any information or stories you might have so all readers can benefit as we’re all probably in the same boat.
I learned long ago that I’m the type of person who learns best by explaining. So my intent is to do my research and share it with you, the reader. I will understand it better as I explain it and at the same time give you some useful information that you can run with.
I will not be (nor will I claim to be) an expert. The topics might be out of sequence because I will be researching areas that might be more interesting to me or more relevant to my organization. They might also be topics that have a lot more insight that are valuable for sharing.
I also hope that I will get feedback from folks reading this and if relevant I can share with everyone.
The posts might be long or brief but will always’ try and be helpful. As I said earlier, I am journaling as I’m discovering and hope that I can help others in the same place.
Please watch for the next post and have a great day. I hope to learn from you too.
Thanks,
Mike
