Book recommendation…..

I just finished the audiobook “We Are as Gods: A Survival Guide for the Age of Abundance” by Peter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler. It was a very interesting book. It’s forward thinking in how it describes AI and technology potential, but at a high level. What I found most interesting though was how much AI technology is already in motion, yet we’re only scratching the surface.

There’s a lot of momentum for AI technology and we know that it’s coming fast. What I liked about this book though is how the authors offer ideas about how we can respond, primarily working with it and to use it to enrich our lives and not be a victim of the changes that are coming. This really aligns with why I started writing this blog.

The list below is directly from the book and really summarizes it quite well. However I would encourage everyone to read this book. I did the audiobook on Spotify. It was included in my subscription.

The ten commandments of AI technology are:

  1. Thou shalt not outsource thy soul. Use AI to enhance, not replace, your creative process. If the machine does the thinking for you, your own cognitive skills will atrophy. [12]
  2. Thou shalt suffer for flow. The struggle of creation is a signal; effort drives focus, and focus drives you into a flow state. [1]
  3. Thou shalt keep sacred the first draft. Always write or create the original spark yourself. [123]
  4. Thou shalt use AI as a challenger, not a crutch. Use AI to critique, push, and elevate your edge, rather than to make the process too easy. [1]
  5. Thou shalt preserve the joy of creation. The human experience of making something is paramount. [1]
  6. Thou shalt champion the unexpected. Lean on AI to make unexpected connections, but let your human mind navigate the lateral thinking. [1]
  7. Thou shalt treat AI as a collaborator. View it as a sounding board, not an artist substituting your personal vision. [1]
  8. Thou shalt curate your creative input. Feed the AI with high-quality, targeted data and prompts to ensure the output aligns with your creative voice.
  9. Thou shalt maintain total control. Ensure that the final product remains a reflection of human intention. [1]
  10. Thou shalt keep your perspective. AI is a powerful tool to amplify human imagination, but it cannot carry the wisdom, conscience, or soul required for true art.

Note: I do NOT endorse nor am I in any way getting compensated for this book. However as I am trying to navigate AI in my job and life, it really “spoke” to me with some relevant insights that I wanted to share with readers.
