AI agents…..part 2

In the current environment, AI agents are where organizations are headed. It is a way to take repetitive tasks and automate them. Not so different from any technology, whether it be the assembly line, robotics, or anything that makes the mundane and repetitive work more efficient. There are many benefits to this but it’s also scary and threatening.

A difference with AI and other efficiency advancements in the past is that AI “thinks” versus a machine that repeats a task which might be limited to mechanical operations. A thinking machine is basically what an AI agent is. It is programmed through its algorithms to make choices based on varying inputs without constant human intervention.

But AI “thinking” is not human thinking. There is a lot of anxiety about job loss from AI. I do have concern for my field of finance, however every design or use of an AI agent process MUST include an opportunity for human interaction and input. That’s where we come in. AI is still just a computer based on logic. Even if empathy can be programmed into an algorithm, is it still able to make a subjective decision? Probably not and likely never will be.

All this said, I’ve really been enjoying using AI and learning more about agents has been a real boost to my outlook. I’ve been utilizing it as much as I can and I have not forced any job loss. I haven’t realized the full benefit because the time savings for tasks are partially used up by my time investment in learning. However, I’m optimistic.

Last note, all of my SAAS applications at work are are starting to introduce AI or are getting ready to. Being prepared to utilize it and understand it is crucial. Being on the front of it doesn’t guarantee job security but makes us more valuable.

Be sure to read my post June 1st post about the 10 rules of interacting with AI. I’ve tried to keep that in mind. Our interaction with AI is the key.
